Joint Force during Response Spectrum Analysis in ANSYS Workbench Mechanical

In a Response Spectrum analysis, the Workbench Mechanical interface does not provide a Probe that will measure the force in a joint in the model.

This video illustrates an APDL commands object that was used to retrieve the FSUM force at the node used in a fixed joint defined in a Workbench Mechanical model during Response Spectrum Analysis.

Users need to be aware that the FSUM result at a joint node will not be identical to the result at a set of nodes on a face in the model, because of how a square root sum of squares is used inside the analysis. The technique in this video is not documented in the ANSYS materials, and should be considered to be “use at your own risk” in commercial work. Users should verify results.
