Loading Methods for a Pipe End using a Remote Point

The end of a 3D solid pipe (or nozzle) model is sometimes loaded with specified forces and moments, or by connection to the end of 1D piping elements in a larger FEA model. A pipe end face can be loaded from a remote point at the centroid of the pipe section.

This video considers ways to approach loading the pipe end with a remote point behavior setting of “deformable”. The deformable setting allows the pipe end to expand thermally or because of internal pressure, but the end can warp. This video mentions the possibility of stabilizing the pipe end behavior with an extended solid pipe. In all cases, the pipe end should be located far enough from a region of interest that end effects do not affect the results in the region of interest.
