During the second half of 2010, the engineers at Cummins Jamestown Engine Plant (JEP) in Lakewood, NY were in a state of transition with regards to their ANSYS FEA simulation software and the computers on which the ANSYS software resides. A corporate-wide initiative had brought in new computers meaning that JEP had its hands full doing software installs, including ANSYS. To compound the problem, JEP had not been keeping up with the ANSYS release cycle, meaning that they were several releases behind the then current release.

Prior to investment in prototype construction and physical testing, MultiDrain utilizes FEA services to assure compliance with regulatory conformance to AASHTO, DOT, FAA, Military and "Euro" specications.
As a major portion of facilities engineering services for the non-ferrous mining industry, Hatch Ltd. in Toronto Ontario, Canada, designs autoclaves – giant vessels with internal agitators that mix slurry material under intense heat and pressure to extract metals such as gold, silver, nickel and copper. Each autoclave must be custom designed for the ore composition at different mine sites. Building and testing prototypes to verify proper operation is prohibitive, due to the equipment size and the high cost of materials of construction. With hundreds of millions to several billion dollars at stake, designs must be right the first time.
By the end of June 2010, Stanley Widmer’s dream had come true.
Back in the 1960’s, Stanley Widmer raced wooden boats. Since that time, he came up with an idea to create a plastic molded double hull boat that would be safer than existing steel designs. That idea is now patented and has been funded by the U.S. government to build a test boat to prove out the concept.
Intelligent Engineering Limited (IE), has developed and patented the Sandwich Plate System (SPS), which integrates a steel-elastomer-steel composite structural laminate in place of conventional stiffened steel plates.
Les Plastiques Majoly (Rotek Plastic) produces roadside hardware such as barricades used in work zones. The barricades are joined together to form a barrier and are reinforced with three steel cables running the entire length of the barrier.
MSE Technology Applications Inc. specializes in providing engineering management and technical support services to the public and private sector. One of their specialties is the design and operation of mobile demilitarization systems for the disposal of out-of-date and recovered ordnance.
MSE-TA has designed a new mobile system that will be able to dispose of larger ordnance. Although the design is similar to their existing designs, the chamber is larger and needs to withstand larger explosions. Work was performed for the U.S. Department of Defense.

The Southerly Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) is the largest of the three wastewater treatment facilities serving the Cleveland, Ohio metropolitan area. The plant cleans wastewater collected from homes and businesses and safely returns the water to local lakes and rivers. The wastewater removal is done in two stages: mechanical separation for removing larger solids and biological processes for removing the remaining smaller solids.
In 2011, civil engineering firm Burgess & Niple (B&N) entered into a contract with the Northeast Ohio Regional Sewer District for a proposed upgrade of the Southerly Wastewater Treatment Plant preliminary treatment facilities including an improved grit removal system.

Their simple and easy to deploy “DS Jet” mixer designs allow their customers to recover large amounts of oil product trapped in settled sludge. With rising oil prices, the DS Jet mixer has become a must-have tool with a great return on investment. With demand high, Allerion is aiming to develop this line of products further.

During a maintenance outage, Stork’s customer (a power plant) encountered an urgent need for a row of steam turbine blades. With the plant losing over $1M per day, every hour of the manufacturing process was critical. Stork needed fast and reliable frequency testing for quality assurance.
