Guide to FEA and CFD Simulation Analysis Software

Hard Drive ModelMEMS DeviceCar ModelAxial Inducer

If you are not familiar with FEA or CFD in general, a basic approach in searching for the appropriate engineering simulation product is to identify what type of analysis you are trying to solve:

Structural Analysis – stresses, strains, deflections, modal (natural frequencies), PSD (random vibration), drop test

Thermal Analysis – temperatures, heat fluxes

Fluid Dynamic Analysis – pressures, velocities, temperatures

Electromagnetics Analysis – amps, volts, fluxes

Coupled Analysis – FSI (fluid structural analysis), acoustics, piezoelectric, MEMS, conjugate heat transfer

Another important consideration is the integration of simulation products is with your CAD system.  ANSYS Workbench allows FEA and CFD geometry to easily accessed from the following Mechanical CAD systems:

Pro/E, CATIA, SolidWorks, Solid Edge, Inventor, UG/NX

ANSYS offers interface products for the major CAD systems so that your CAD models can be seamless integrated into your simulation analyses. This is especially important in performing design optimization studies such as Design of Experiments (DOE) and Six Sigma.
