SimuTech CFD expert presents at FDA-sponsored workshop

SimuTech Group’s Mark Goodin, Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) Consulting Engineer, gave a presentation titled “Validation of a Coupled Electromagnetics/Computational Fluid Dynamics Model of the Cleveland Clinic Continuous Flow Total Artificial Heart” during the Advanced Computational Models for Medical Devices session on September 7, 2011. His expertise in ANSYS CFD simulation is a result of twenty years of medical device research and industry experience with particular expertise in cardiovascular simulation and product development.
According to Goodin, “The fact that the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute, and the National Science Foundation sponsored this event demonstrates that these organizations want to play an active role in helping shape the important role of computational modeling in medical device development. The workshop provided an excellent platform for discussing both the state-of-the-art in numerical methods and the critical role of validating model results with in vitro and in vivo test data. The presentations covered a wide range of both cardiovascular and orthopedic devices from the FDA, industry, medical laboratories, and universities throughout the world.”
